Line Problems

Can’t make calls on one line

  • Determine if the problem is on your telephone or on all telephones.
  • Is this a shared alarm/fax/modem line?

Can’t make calls on any line

  • Check power source to telephone system.
  • Attempt to call another station. This will tell you if the problem is internal or external.

Low volume on one line

  • Exchange handsets.
  • If on outside calls, see if it is on a specific line on all phones.
  • All lights flash – Check the line cord.

Low volume on all lines

  • Check each line and determine if the problem exists on all lines or on a group of lines. This will allow you to determine if it is a system problem or a line card problem.

All lights flash

  • Check the line cord.

Telephone problems

Can’t hear on low volume

  • Exchange handset with another. If the problem moves, it’s the telephone.
  • Change the telephones with a like telephones. If the problem moves, it is the telephone set, if not, it’s the card that supports your phone.

Static on one telephone

  • If you have a small twirler that keeps the cord from twisting remove it and determine if the problem continues.
  • Exchange telephones with a similar telephone.

Static on several telephones

  • If it is on all it could be a line problem or system problem.
  • If the problem is on several telephones it could be a problem with a card.

Dead phone

  • Check line cord.
  • Exchange phones. That will tell you if it is the set or the cord on the set.

Phone doesn’t ring when the others do

  • This is most likely a programming issue. If the telephone did ring and now it doesn’t, check the “night ring” feature. This button is on the receptionist telephone.

Phone won’t hang up

  • You may have a switch hook problem. This is very common on certain telephone systems.
